Showcase

The following are the requirements for entering pieces in Showcase:

• Guild membership (conference registration not necessary)
• Prior jurying by each guild
• Entries must have been made since last conference
• Entry is judged on criteria-not credentials of artist

Number of Entries Allotted to Each Guild:

First 50 members:

5 items in Category A

3 items in Category B

3 items in Category C

3 items in Category D
Add one item per category for each additional 10 members.

• First and Second Ribbon in each section
• Juror’s Choice (one per juror)
• Peoples’ Choice
• HGA Award
• Interweave Press: Weaving for the Home
• Complex Weavers Award
• American Tapestry Alliance Award

Judging Criteria

Categories A, B, and D

• Craftsmanship
• Design
• Suitability of material for intended use
• Originality

Category C

• Spinning appropriate (twist, diameter)
• Control of spinning
• Suitability of fiber for intended use.

Showcase Categories

A. WEAVING

• Tapestry
• Wall Hanging
• Fashion Accessory (scarf, purse, belt, jewelry, hat, etc.)
• Rug
• Garment
• Household Textile
• Miniature (whole piece may not exceed 15 x 15 including mounting or display device)

B. MULTI-DIMENSIONAL

• Basketry (traditional shape, technique and material)
• Woven
• Other: gourd/plant/found object

C. SPINNING

• Skeins must be clean, 100 yards or 4 ounces minimum, tied in at least three places to allow juror to open and examine them.
• Singles
• Plied
• Novelty
• Article
• 100 % Handspun
• Greater than 40% handspun

D. KNITTING/CROCHET/FELTING/BEAD

1. Garment or accessory

2. Functional item

3. Other

 Deadline for entries is February 1, 2005.

 

Drop Off: Articles must be turned in to the committee on Wednesday, March 9, 2005, between 8am-5pm at the conference showcase area.

Pick Up: Items must be picked up on Sunday, March 13, 2005 between 4 and 5pm.
