WELCOME TO SHOWCASE ..... the best juried work from each of the twenty-five guilds that make up the Southern California Handweaver's Association. You will find fiber techniques to interest everyone! Handwoven fashions, accessories for the home, knitted and crocheted items, beaded, handpainted, handmade basketry, spinning, dyeing and more. You will experience wools, mohair, alpaca, silk, cotton, linen, synthetics, metallics and every fiber you can bring to mind. Presented in a museum like atmosphere, you can feast your senses on these beautiful objects. Expect to be dazzled!

SHOWCASE PROSPECTUS

 

ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS

1. Guild Membership (conference Registration not necessary).

2. Prior jurying by each guild.

3. Entries must have been made since last conference.

4. Entry is judged on criteria – not credentials of artist.

 

NUMBER OF ENTRIES ALLOTTED TO EACH GUILD

First 50 members: 5 items in Category A 3 items in Category C

3 items in Category B 3 items in Category D

Add one item per category for each additional 10 members.

CATEGORIES

A. WEAVING

1. Tapestry

2. Wall Hanging

3. Fashion Accessory (scarf, purse, belt, jewelry, hat, etc.).

4. Rug

5. Garment

6. Household Textile

7. Miniature (whole piece may not exceed 15x15 inches, including mounting or display device.

B. MULTI-DIMENSIONAL

1. Basketry (traditional shape, technique and material)

2. Woven

3. Other: gourd/plant/found object

C. SPINNING

1. Skeins: must be clean, 100 yards or 4 ounces minimum, tied in at least three places to allow juror to open and examine them.

a. Singles b. Plied c. novelty

2. Article: a. 100% Handspun b. Greater than 40% Handspun

D. KNITTING/CROCHET/FELTING/BEADING

1. Garment or accessory

2. Functional item

3. Other

 

JUDGING CRITERIA:

Categories A, B and D

1. Craftsmanship

2. Design.

3. Suitability of material for intended use.

4. Originality

Category C

1. Spinning appropriate (twist, diameter).

2. Control of spinning.

3. Suitability of fiber for intended use

AWARDS:

 

  • First and Second Ribbon in each section.
  • Juror’s Choice (one per juror).
  • Peoples’ Choice.
  • HGA Award.
  • Interweave Press: Weaving for the Home.
  • Complex Weavers Award.
  • American Tapestry Award.

 

 

Deadline for Entries: FEB. 1, 2007. Entry Fee: $15.00 per entry.

Articles must be turned in to the committee on Wednesday, March 21, between 8 am and 12 noon at the Conference Showcase Area. Items must be picked up on Sunday, March 25, between 4 and 5 pm.
